Walking along the sleeping Buddha-Sandakphu Phalut Trek

The Sandakphu-Phalut trek is known to be one of the most famous treks in Darjeeling. It is also known as the “Trekkers Wonderland”. The trek has everything to offer from the breathtaking sceneries of the Kanchenjunga and Mount Everest to the pure local fermented wine which will charge you up and make your trip even more enjoyable.

Duration of Trek: 6 days

Package inclusions: An experienced local guide for the whole trek and Permits, accommodation and meals will all be included in the Sandakphu tour package.

Important note: Transportation can be arranged and you can also book personal porters to carry your luggage

Things to carry: Sleeping Bag, Thermos Pad, Boots and Fleece Jacket

Day 1: Arrival to Maneybhanjyan from New Jalpaiguri Railway Station:


After you arrive here you will be advised to check in the homestay that has been provided from the Sandakphu package you had purchased.

Altitude: 6000ft

Things to see in Maneybhanjyan: Lush green hills and the dense forests

Hotel and home-stays: Shikhar Hotel, Lepchajagat homestay.

Day 2-The journey begins: trekking till Tonglu:


Your adventure begins as you have to climb a steep hill up to Meghma. You can take a break here as this place is filled with tea and snack stalls. From Meghma you will continue your trek until Tonglu. When you reach Tonglu you will be assigned a homestay.The cost of the accommodation will be included in the Sandakphu trek package

Altitude: 6800ft

Water sources: Chitrey, Lamadhura, and Meghma

Things to see: mesmerizing landscape and a small Buddhist monastery

Day 3- hike to Sandakphu:


You make your way through the Bamboo glades and the Rhodendron forests till you reach Kalpokhari and from Kalpokhari you will make your way to Bikheybhanjyang till Sandakphu. The Sandakphu trek route is filled with breathtaking sceneries and beautiful Rondendron forest

Altitude: 12000ft

Water sources: Gairibas, Bikheybhanjyan

Things to see: a Blackpond-the color of the water is black and muddy and the lake never freezes breathtaking views of the Mighty Kanchenjunga and Mount Everest from Sandakphu.

Day 4- trek to Phalut:

Day 4

This is probably the most challenging part of the trek as you have to hike for 14km. the hike is worth every sweat as you will be able to witness one of the most amazing views of the Kanchenjunga in the entire world. The sunrise from Phalut is simply mind-blowing.

Altitude: 12200ft

Water sources: carry at least 3 to 4 liters of water from Sandakphu

Things to do and see: you can taste the local wine, witness the glorious sunrise.

Day 5: Trek to Gorkhey:


This is the final step of your trekking journey as you have descended through the forests to reach the village of Gorkhey.

Altitude: 8000ft

Things to see: spectacular views of the peaks of Kanchenjunga

Day 6- Departure:


Your trekking journey will end in the village of Gorkhey.Your assigned land rover will drive you till Maneybhanjyan and from there you will have to make arrangement to go to NJP.
